New Choices is an evidence-based program of Grace Haven that exists to reduce the harmful effects of substance use on women identified who are pregnant and/or parenting children up to six years old.

New Choices provides a diverse range of services and supports all in one place.

Who We Serve

  • Women identified with substance use concerns who are pregnant or parenting
  • Children under the age of six
  • Mothers feeling overwhelmed, trapped, frustrated or alone
  • Women identified that are working towards having their children return to their care and are looking for support through that process

  • Addictions groups and individual sessions with an addictions counsellor
  • Public health groups (sexual health, nutrition, dental health, breastfeeding, smoking cessation)
  • Wellness and personal development groups
  • Parenting support programming and parenting groups
  • Individual sessions and home visits with an infant-parent specialist

Programming for Children

  • New Choices provides an opportunity for mothers and their children to interact in a safe environment, and for children to interact with their peers.
  • Programming includes a variety of activities such as crafts, sensory play, circle time, and time for mothers and children tp engage in play and connection time together.

Snoezelen

  • Snoezelen is a safe, non-threatening sensory room filled with sights, sounds, textures and aromas. It offers a wealth of benefits for both mother and child, helping to improve communication, build trust, and enhance their understanding of each other.
